Basketry Workshop: Coiled Turtle Basket
Sunday, April 19 @ 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm
For thousands of years around the world, humans have been inspired by turtles in their art, particularly considering them to be symbols of longevity, protection, and wisdom. In this workshop, students will learn how to sew a turtle pattern into their coiling, either starting with a woodburned insert or from scratch, depending on their interests and skill level. A variety of materials will be available for coiling, including grasses, pine needles, lily leaves, and reeds. Students are also welcome to bring along any materials they have gathered for use in their baskets to add a personal touch.
All materials are included in the workshop.
